Not One Stone

When the typical modern Bible reader comes across such language as, "stars falling from heaven, heaven and earth passing away, the sun and moon going dark, the elements melting, the heavens being shaken," they naturally think of this material universe coming to an end.
However, many are surprised to learn that this Apocalyptic Language is used by Jesus and His Apostles, not to describe the end of the world as we know it, but the destruction of Jerusalem and its temple in AD 70. There is a vast amount of prophecy which this event fulfills. This type of language is not new with Jesus and His Apostles, but is borrowed from the language of the OT Prophets.

Creating the Israel of God

Before the foundation of the world, before light and darkness were divided, before the man and woman walked in the garden, God conceived a body of humanity, holy and blameless, chosen in Christ. [Eph. 1:4] This body would be called the Israel of God, which He predetermined would be adopted into His household through a spiritual birth, in His Son. [Eph. 1:5; Jn. 1:13, 3:5]

As part of bringing this plan into reality, God promised land and seed to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. He fulfilled these promises in their children. It took both the Sinai Covenant and the New Covenant to fulfill these promises. The Sinai Covenant was a shadow of the “good things to come” in the New Covenant through the Messiah. The Sinai Covenant was to continue until the Promised Messiah should come. [Gal. 3:19]

The Only Sign Given

When someone points out that Friday afternoon to Sunday morning is not three days and three nights, many will be quick to make their parrot-like remark, “Don’t you know that the Jews counted any part of a day, as a whole day?”

After reading the evidence inside, that tired and worn-out answer will no longer be usable.

The Determined Time

Would it interest you to know, that God gave Israel a prophecy that told them exactly when the Messiah would come. When the Messiah came, He told them as clear as day, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand.” The time fulfilled was the Sixty-nine weeks of years from the commandment to return and rebuild Jerusalem unto the Messiah.

God told Daniel in the prophecy of the Seventy Weeks, that He had set a determined time to deal with “thy people and thy city.” This determined time was a period marked off out of Israel’s history, with a beginning and an end, lasting 490 years, without interruption, or gaps.

Kiss the Son

Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him. [Ps. 2:12]

To Kiss the Son is to reverence or pay homage to Him. We are to do this because He is worthy. He is the Son whom the Father set upon the throne of the holy hill of Zion, meaning David’s eternal throne. He is the Heir of all things [Heb. 1:2]. His inheritance is the nations (seed for multitude) and the ends of the earth for His possession (land-wherever He sets His foot [Ps. 2:8; Isa. 66:1]).

As I have stated before, Jesus the Messiah is the New Covenant in His Person. As the Sent One of God, He is God’s Authorized and Legal Representative. To love the Son is to love His Father. If you want to know what God is like, look at Jesus the Christ, “For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.” [Col. 2:9]

He is our Great High Priest, after the order of Melchizedek. He forever lives to make intercession on our behalf, representing us before the Almighty Father.

There is a Man, seated upon the throne of all creation.The Man, Christ Jesus. There is a man, of the seed of Abraham, of the seed of David, one of our own, sitting on the throne of all creation, far above all principalities and powers, and every name that is named. This glorified God-Man, the Last Adam, is the Head over all things to His Body, the One New Humanity, the Israel of God.

He is the Prophet Moses foretold, that Israel should give heed to His words, lest they should be uprooted from the people.

After the healing of the lame man at the temple gate called Beautiful, Peter said to those who marveled at this healing.

22 For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you.
23 And it shall come to pass, that every soul, which will not hear that prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people.
24 Yea, and all the prophets from Samuel and those that follow after, as many as have spoken, have likewise foretold of these days. [Acts 3]

Moses foretold how God would raise up a Prophet, like him, from among Israel [Deut. 18:15]. It was this Prophet they were to listen to and do whatsoever He should say. Those who would not listen to this Prophet would be uprooted from among Israel.

A point of interest is the word destroyed, in verse 23 above. It is the Greek word, exolothreuō, which means to extirpate. This word, extirpate, comes to us from the Latin, meaning, to root out. The ex means out of, and stirp, means a line descending from a common ancestor. Its literal Latin meaning would be, to pull or cast out of ancestral line. In English, it came to mean to clear stumps or pull something up by the root.

Peter stated that those who would not hear and obey the Prophet, foretold by Moses, would be pulled up by the root from among the people. In other words, they would no longer be considered a part of Covenant Israel. The only way they could be put back in, is being grafted in through faith in Christ. Hence, according to what Peter says here, those “Jews” who don’t believe in Jesus the Messiah, are in no way considered part of Israel. This makes what Paul says, that “All Israel is not Israel,” all the more clear.

Jesus is the Prophet foretold by Moses, to which Israel was to give heed. Those who would not listen to Him would be up-rooted from Israel. In the extreme, they would be up-rooted from the land of the living, and at the least, they would become branches broken off from New Covenant Israel for their rebellion and unbelief. These broken branches have been uprooted from their ancestral line. They are no longer a part of Israel. Not giving heed to this Prophet is very serious.

Only by obeying the words of this Prophet, Christ Jesus, do they have a hope of being grafted back into God’s covenant people, the Israel of God.

The people whispered that Jesus was this Prophet [Jn. 6:14], Peter confirmed it [Acts. 3:22-23], and Stephen gave his voice to its truth before he was stoned [Act. 7:37].

All the prophets, beginning with Samuel, foretold of these days of the Messiah. Notice, Peter doesn’t say that the prophets foretold of natural Israel’s glorious future and dominance over the nations. They foretold the days of the Messiah. This tells us that the true focus of the prophets was not natural Israel, but the Messiah, the eternal Seed of Israel.

Blessed with divine favor are those who kiss, honor, bow before and reverence the Son and place their trust in Him.
